University Of Guelph

Guelph, Ontario is more than just a nice town in which to raise a family. Guelph is also a launching pad for careers, providing training that helps students become specialists in anger management, Montreal banking or real estate developers in Vancouver. This is due in large part to the University of Guelph, a medium sized public university that is the dominant feature of the city's educational landscape. Programs

The University of Guelph, or U of G as it is colloquially known, has over 13 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in 90 different majors, many of which are offered through distance learning as well as on campus. Programs are grouped into seven colleges: art, biological science, management and economics, physical science and engineering, social sciences, agriculture, and veterinary medicine.

Special Schools

There are a number of special programs and colleges within the umbrella of the University of Guelph. Its colleges of agriculture and veterinary medicine go back to the founding of the school and are among its best known programs, with students going on to found programs for pet home health care in BC. The department of family relations also has an applied nutrition program and the school of fine art is much celebrated. Other uncommon programs offered at U of G include Environmental Design and Rural Development, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Open Learning.

Athletics

Though sports are not as strong in Canadian universities as they are in American ones, students on their way to becoming Mississauga orthodontists can become college sports stars in one of 15 sports while at U of G. Varsity sports programs include baseball, figure skating, golf, rugby, cross country skiing, rowing, basketball, football, and hockey. Many sports are offered for both men and women, but some, such as figure skating and rugby, are restricted to a single gender. The U of G Gryphons have had success in men's and women's cross country running and track and field, and men's lacrosse.

Rankings

Despite being a smaller school, the University of Guelph is top caliber. In 2008 it ranked as the #4 comprehensive school in Canada according to MacLean's magazine. U of G has achieved #1 spot on this list five times since 1999. The school is very selective, rarely choosing students with academic averages below 75%, but for students who are accepted, the chances of graduation and going on to be a successful Toronto naturopathic doctor go up. The school's graduation rate is 89%.
